The Sandston Memorial Recreation Center was full of excitement Saturday, April 29, 2023! The Founders Club of Sandston was holding its annual meeting. Seventy members and guest gathered to enjoy fellowship, lunch and an awesome program.

The highlight of the day was a walk through Sandston in the 50's and 60's lead by Dr. George Vetrovec. George moved to 306 North Confederate Avenue in 1950 at the age of 6. Several years later his family moved to Williamsburg Road in their home next door to the post office. We walked along Williamsburg Road with him remembering Dr. Bailey's medical practice and how he made house calls. We all remembered the many hours we spent in Tony's drug store and how we gathered there for conversation and limeades. Next we visited Blake's grocery store, a place filled with memories for everyone.

In George's power point presentation, he showed slides of Sandston Elementary School. The school has increased it size over the years and is a top preforming school in Henrico County.

The program was enjoyed by everyone and the Club appreciates the time and research George put into the program. In summary, we all agreed we grow up in small town America and we are grateful for that!

Members were reminded of the two projects in Sandston that we support: the American Legion Memorial Day Parade and the Wreaths Across America at the Seven Pines National Cemetery.
